Do you lack broadband connectivity, or are you reluctant to spend hours downloading the latest Mac game demos, mods and other content? There may be a solution for you: Inside Mac Games (IMG) on Tuesday launched a new subscription-based service called the MacGames DVD. It’s periodical service sent out eight times a year that features Mac games, demos, shareware, updates, add-ons, trailers, cheaters and more.
The company also announced plans to phase out its venerable MacGames CD subscription service over the coming year. MacGames CDs have been published since 1995.
IMG publisher Tuncer Deniz explained that the DVD has become necessary thanks to the proliferation of demo versions of games that occupy hundreds of megabytes of disk space.
“The DVD version will allow us to include all the latest demos, hundreds of shareware games, dozens of game updates, and for the first time, dozens of QuickTime movies and trailers, hundreds of maps and mods for today’s popular Mac games and much more,” said Deniz.
Current MacGames CD subscribers can upgrade to a DVD subscription; their accounts will be given credit for remaining issues.
The first MacGames DVD will ship in April. Set at US$49 per year, the subscription also gains users a free game (a two year subscription nets you two free games). Visit the Web site for more details.
