LimeWire LLC has announced the forthcoming release of LimeWire 4.0, a major new upgrade to the peer-to-peer file sharing software for Mac OS X, Windows and Linux. An interface overhaul, faster and more successful downloads, improved searches and other new features mark this new release, according to the developer.
With LimeWire installed, users can try to locate and download just about any type of file that’s made available through the Gnutella Network, a decentralized peer-to-peer file sharing system.
Also new in LimeWire 4.0 is the ability to do firewall-to-firewall transfers; better search results; a “What’s New” feature; drill-down results; faster connections on start-up; proxy support; a new search progress bar; better Internet connection detection; support for international searches and groups; exclusion of bad file sources and more.
LimeWire 4.0 will be released in May. Like its current counterpart, the software will be available as a free download from the LimeWire Web site, and will also be sold as a “Pro” version that includes additional features and capabilities, as well as tech support.
