Thomson ISI ResearchSoft on Thursday announced the release of
RefViz for Mac OS X, a new software tool designed for researchers who want to explore reference literature more easily. The software dovetails with Thomson’s bibliographic software EndNote.
RefViz offers a visual interface to explore reference literature for major themes and topics “at a glance.” It works with popular databases like the ISI Web of Science, OCLC and PubMed, searching for terms found in the title and abstract and notes fields. It groups literature similarly to how a researcher would stack papers, and lets users peruse using a “Galaxy View” that organizes references conceptually, and a “Matrix View” that organizes references by highlighting associations between terms.
Already available for Windows, RefViz is now available for Mac OS X. The software costs US$149.95 as a special introductory price ($299.95 regularly). A 30-day trial version is available for download as well. The software requires Mac OS X v10.2 “Jaguar” and Java 1.4.1 or later.
