Tektronix Inc. has introduced WFMNLE, a software waveform monitor plug-in that works with Avid’s Media Composer Adrenaline, Media Composer, XPress Pro, and Symphony editing and finishing systems. It allows you to verify picture quality during the editing process and fix any problems before finalizing the video, a crucial task for editors whose work must conform to broadcast standards.
WFMNLE provides an at-a-glance status alarm window called AlarmVu. It checks for errors on a frame-by-frame basis and alerts you when there’s a problem. It then provides three ways to look for the offense: Picture with Bright-Up display shows the frame in question and places red dots on the trouble spots; Diamond display helps you determine which of the RGB components is causing a limit violation; and Arrowhead display displays the same information as the Diamond display but adds a visual aid to help you fix an RGB component limit violation.
In addition, traditional Waveform and Vector displays offer selection of line and field views or scene matching and flesh tone correction, respectively. An error log helps pinpoint where in the timeline an error occurred and offers proof of broadcast standards compliance to clients who require it.
WFMNLE runs in Mac OS X v10.x. You can download a free 60-day demo of the plug-in from the Tektronix Web site. Contact the company for a pricing quote.
