Belgian developer PerfectProof recently introduced ProofMaster Dalmatian, a new software solution that helps catch problems in the proofing stage by using same the 1-bit files produced by RIPs driving film and plate printers. The company notes that this is important because traditional ink-jet printers use a different RIP than the one employed to create the films and plates used to print the final product. As a result, problems that appear in the printed piece don’t show up in the proofing stage.
Proofmaster Dalmatian features the option to make 1-bit proofs or proofs created with all the standard DTP formats, such as PDF or EPS, as well as the ability to drive two printers with a single license. Three color correction methods — pure dot, accurate color, and accurate color with pure black — are available.
System requirements call for a G4 or better processor running at 866MHz or faster, Mac OS X v.10.2.2 “Jaguar” or v.10.3.2 “Panther,” 1GB RAM, and 4GB hard drive space. ProofMaster Dalmatian comes in three versions geared toward 2-up, 4-up, or 8-up printing. Pricing is US$4,260, $6,760, or $8,530, respectively.
