Runtime Revolution Ltd. on Friday introduced a new version of Runtime Revolution, their software development environment for multiple platforms including Mac OS X. The new version of the software sports improvements including improved appearance support on Mac OS X, a new standalone application builder, improvements to database linked controls, additions to the Transcript programming language, and overall performance and stability improvements.
Runtime Revolution runs on Mac OS X, Windows, Linux and Unix operating systems. It’s a rapid application development (RAD) programming environment that lets users create applications of their own, and is aimed both at hobbyist programmers and commercial developers.
Concurrent with this release is a new pricing plan that lowers the cost of Revolution Studio to $299 — $100 lower than before. An Enterprise Edition starts at $899, and various support, upgrade and documentation options are available. Educational and volume licensing prices have been lowered as well — as low as $2 per seat for academic institutions, according to the company.
