{“So I was sitting around in the speaker’s lounge at the “,”, checking out the latest beta of “,”. As I’ve pointed out elsewhere, it’s possible to browse the music library of an iPod by dragging it into an OmniWeb window. I wanted to see if I could do anything new with the latest version of the program and discovered a cool new trick thanks to my lounge-mate, “,”.
Adam’s hot on OmniWeb, you see, and I asked him how one might use OmniWeb’s Search feature to search a local volume. We dinked around for a bit and then he suggested we drag the URL from OmniWeb’s Address field to the Desktop.
Lo and behold, when we did, the Mac began downloading the contents of the iPod’s music library to the Mac. When I navigated to one of the F folders found within the Music folder (the path is iPod/iPod_Control/Music/Fx), just the contents of that folder moved to the Mac.
As cool as this is, please note that these F folders are organized in a way that defies logic. Dragging these folders into iTunes will organize the music for you, but you’ll find it easy to locate music within these folders in the Finder only by using the Finder’s Search feature.
And no, we never did discover a way to search a local volume via OmniWeb’s Find field. “}
