If there’s a dark underbelly to the Internet it has to be spam — unwanted junk email that clogs our inboxes with everything from lower telephone rates to porn. Luckily there are developers out there that are busy creating applications to help us rid our inboxes of spam; one I found recently is certainly promising.
JunkMatcher is not new, but it was recently update to version 1.0.5 adding new features and fixing several bugs. JunkMatcher works with Apple’s Mail application’s built-in Junk Mail filters instead of requiring you to disable it like some other utilities. When first launched JunkMatcher builds the necessary rules in Mail, installs the application and AppleScripts needed to process mail.
While no Junk Mail filter is perfect, JunkMatcher does a respectable job catching spam for me. It makes a nice backup filter for Apple’s filters, ensuring my inbox is kept clean.
If you’re checking out Junk Mail applications you should give this one a try. Prior to JunkMatcher, I was using SpamSieve, which is probably one of the best Junk Mail filters on the market. I’ll see how the two compare.
