Blogging is probably one of the most popular pastimes on the Internet these days. People from all walks of life can easily set up a Web site and start publishing in minutes, giving millions of people access to their thoughts on everything from computers to political views.
Mac users with a .Mac account have a couple of applications that will publish blogs directly from their desktop to a .Mac account. iBlog has been a popular blogging tool, but yesterday a new application entered the market vying for the interest of Mac users.
BlogStudio is a great looking application, but like most 1.0 releases, the application still needs to work out a few issues.
I have a copy of my iDisk on my desktop that stays synced with .Mac all the time. It took me a while to figure out, but unfortunately, BlogStudio wouldn’t publish to .Mac while I had a local copy of my iDisk on the desktop — as soon as I turned off .Mac syncing, BlogStudio published my blog entries.
I really like the interface of BlogStudio — it feels like a quality application that most Mac users will be able to pick and use right away. Since blogging is still new to some people, having an application that you feel comfortable with is important.
One feature of BlogStudio that Mac users will like is the many themes the author included with this release. Most themes will give you a site with an Apple.com look and feel of Aqua or grey toolbars and clean backgrounds.
While I would like the option of using the application on an ftp server or something other than .Mac, right now BlogStudio only publishes to .Mac. BlogStudio also allows the user to insert pictures into the text, but the whole process of inserting paragraphs feels a bit awkward. Still, I give the developer kudos for making a very nice blogging tool.
If you’re interested in blogging with your .Mac account, BlogStudio deserves a look.
