It’s been a long, long time since I’ve had as much fun on my Mac as I’ve had the past couple of months playing Halo on my Mac.
So long, in fact, that the last time I had this much fun was back when I worked at MacUser . A few of us at the MU offices were trapped in our building every night, waiting for the hideous bridge traffic to die down. To pass the time, we’d play network games of Bungie’s Marathon 2 and Marathon: Infinity. Kill-fest, King Of the Hill, Kill The Guy With The Ball, you name it.
Those were great times. Killing your co-workers digitally as a stress reliever can’t be beat.
In any event, don’t let anyone tell you otherwise — Halo really is Marathon 4, right down to the weapons choices and the gameplay. And I love it… especially on the network, because then I’m playing with and against real-live human beings with real skills. Or imagined skills, but that’s fun too.
This weekend we tried to get a Halo game going among members of the Macworld forums, but it was short notice and only a couple of people ended up playing. But next Sunday at 8 p.m. Pacific (11 p.m. Eastern) we’re going to try again. Hopefully Contributing Editor Rob Griffiths and the Game Room’s own Peter Cohen will stop by, so you can blast three different representatives of Macworld . Or we can blast you.
Interested? Watch this thread or the comments thread linked below for server info — I’ll post the server IP address and password on Sunday. And be sure your copy of Halo has all the latest updates installed, or you won’t be compatible with my server.
