SRS Labs Inc. has announced the upcoming availability of an SRS Circle Surround encoding software plug-in designed for Digidesign’s Pro Tools systems. With the plug-in in place, Pro Tools users can encode up to 6.1 channels of audio and monitor the results using a real-time decoder built in to the software. It’ll be available this quarter for about $800.
“Circle Surround is so flexible that it can be used to create surround mixes for regular compact discs, hybrid multichannel SACDs, and SD and HD programming. With full-bandwidth 6.1 channel surround encoding, and the most powerful matrix surround steering in the world, it replaces older surround plug-ins that are only capable of LCRS. And of course, Circle Surround encoded content is fully compatible with millions of A/V surround receivers, as well as mono or stereo playback,” said SRS Labs director of sales Mike Canevaro.
SRS Circle Surround TDM Pro requires Pro Tools 6.0 or higher, and Digidesign Mix, HD or HD | Accel for Mac OS X or Windows XP.
SRS is demonstrating the technology at this week’s NAB 2004 trade show in Las Vegas, Nevada; look for them in booth N-1502.
