Virtual Programming Ltd. has announced plans to publish a Mac version of Egosoft’s X2 The Threat sometime in the third quarter of 2004. It’s a 3D, first-person space trading and combat game that follows in the footsteps of classics like Elite or, closer to Mac gamers’ hearts, Escape Velocity.
X2 The Threat puts you in the role of a space captain, trading and manufacturing products between planets and solar systems. You discover trading routes and defend them, acquire and command new vessels ranging from fighters to cargo freighters and destroyers, direct fleet movement, and more.
No fixed release date has been set yet, according to Virtual Programming Ltd., but the company has posted a Web page with links to screenshots and other details. When the game ships, the UK-based publisher expects to sell it for £29.75, or about US$54 at current exchange rates.
