The Orphanage, who were responsible for the special effects in such movies as Hellboy and Jeepers Creepers 2, announced on Wednesday that they are making a key piece of their technology available for non-commercial use. Known as eLin, the suite of Adobe After Effects 6.5 plug-ins and scripts helps effects artists composite film, video and 3D elements in a single High Dynamic Range (HDR) color space that helps make the overall result look more realistic. It includes support for industry-standard Cineon film scans and Industrial Light & Magic’s EXR file format.
eLin will be available for download through the Red Giant Software Web site by June. It will be fully functional for non-commercial use. Commercial copies will also be available through Red Giant at a cost of US$499 per user, with quotes for multiple and site license discounts available on request.
