Griffin Technology Inc. announced Friday that it is shipping iTalk, its voice recorder intended for third-generation iPods. the iTalk snaps on to the top of the iPod; it also features a speaker, headphone connector and a receptacle for an external microphone.
The iTalk sports automatic gain control and can record a speaker up to 100 feet away, according to Griffin. it measures 2.4 x .84 x .62 inches and weighs about 1.2 oz. Files recorded using the iTalk are 8kHz 16-bit mono WAV files, and capacity is determined by the available file space on your iPod. The iTalk can support external microphones using a mini-jack connector, and you can play back any music or audio file on your iPod through the speaker, not just what you’ve recorded.
The iTalk costs about US$40. Requirements call for a third-generation iPod with a dock connector; the iPod mini is not supported.
