Engineered Audio LLC has taken the wraps off its
RemoteRemote 2, a new Radio Frequency (RF)-based remote control for iPods with dock connectors and iPod minis. The company plans to ship RemoteRemote 2 this spring for US$49.
If you’re familiar with the original RemoteRemote, the RemoteRemote 2 is an integrated system that sits atop the iPod, rather than connecting to it through a tether. It features a wireless “keyfob” remote powered by an internal lithium battery — the keyfob is identical to the one included with the original RemoteRemote. The keyfob sports five buttons: volume up, volume down, play/pause, last track/rewind and next track/fast forward.
Since the RemoteRemote 2 uses RF, its wireless remote control can work around corners and through walls. It uses the iPod for power and measures 0.6 x 0.6 x 2.2 inches. The RemoteRemote 2 unit is molded in white to match regular iPods, but Engineered Audio makes the keyfob available in black or white.
Pre-orders are now being accepted.
