Aspyr Media announced plans to release a Macintosh version of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, a role-playing game set thousands of years before the events in the motion picture series. The Mac version is expected to ship this August.
In Knights of the Old Republic, it’s up to you to lead a band of Jedi freedom fighters pitted against the evil Sith. You can create customizable and evolving characters, choosing from humans, droids, Twi’leks, Wookies and other inhabitants of the Star Wars mythology as you explore seven different worlds like Tatooine, the Sith world of Korriban, Dantooine and the Jedi Academy, and the Wookie homeworld of Kashyyyk. You can develop Force powers, customize light sabers and choose your weapons for battle as you outfit your party. You’ll also get a chance to fly and upgrade your own starship, the Ebon Hawk.
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic was created by Bioware, the same company that developed Neverwinter Nights and the Baldur’s Gate series. Aspyr’s internal development team is handling the Macintosh conversion.
Preliminary system requirements include Mac OS X v10.2.8 or later, G4/1GHz or faster, 256MB RAM, 4GB hard disk space, ATI Radeon 7500 or Nvidia GeForce2 MX or better 3D graphics with at least 32MB VRAM, and a DVD drive. Aspyr is now taking pre-orders for the game, which costs US$49.99.
