The iTunes Music Store reached its one year anniversary on April 28, 2004. At the time, Apple indicated that the iTunes Music Store was selling 2.7 million song each week. Now, only a week later, the company said it’s set a new record by selling 3.3 million songs — not including more than half a million songs that iTunes Music Store customers have downloaded for free as part of the anniversary “Free Song of the Day” promotion.
iMixes are a new feature of the updated “third generation” iTunes Music Store that let users share their playlists with one another. Apple said that more than 20,000 iMixes have been published this past week. Users have rated those iMixes more than 50,000 times. Other new features of the iTunes Music Store include radio charts from more than 1,000 radio stations around the United States, a new Music Video section, the ability to play iTunes Music Store-bought songs on up to five machines and the ability to create CD jewel case inserts.
