Looking for an alternative to the chess game that comes with Mac OS X? Freeverse Software has released
Big Bang Chess. The free game features solo and network play, tight integration with Apple application software and beautiful graphics rendered using OpenGL.
Users can invite each other to games using Apple’s iChat instant messaging software using a single click; they can also listen to their music by accessing iTunes playlists within the game’s interface. Big Bang Chess also culls information about you from your Address Book and will dynamically create new entries for your opponents. Apple’s Mail is supported, as well, so if you want to play against another opponent but you can’t do it in real-time, you can play by e-mail instead. And Apple’s Rendezvous is also supported, so you can automatically discover other Big Bang Chess players on your home, office or school networks.
Free to download and play, Big Bang Chess requires Mac OS X v10.3 or higher.
