Yellow Dog Linux maker Terra Soft Solutions Inc. noted Wednesday that it has achieved what it calls “preliminary Linux support” for Apple’s Xserve G5 and Cluster Node systems. The support was achieved using an in-house beta version of Y-HPC, a version of its PowerPC-optimized Linux operating system offering 64-bit support designed to work with PowerPC 970 processors. Terra Soft plans to offer Yellow Dog Linux, the 32-bit version of their operating system, in mid-June. Y-HPC will be offered on 2 DVDs as “a rolling, continually improved, date-stamped product.”
