Apple’s newest AirPort Extreme Base Station can operate using Power over Ethernet (PoE), making it possible for IT personnel in corporations, schools and other institutional settings to install the device in locations that lack easy access to an AC outlet, such as crawlspaces or areas above suspended ceilings. That presumes they’re using an Ethernet switch or hub that can deliver PoE, however, which many businesses don’t have. Now MacWireless offers its own PoE solution comprising a pair of adapters that convert a standard Ethernet cable into one that carries power as well. The US$69.98 interface works over up to 330 feet of Ethernet cable.
