Kerio Technologies Inc. on Monday introduced its Kerio MailServer 6 software at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in San Francisco, Calif. The software lets users receive e-mail, synchronize contacts and view calendar events using e-mail clients like Microsoft Outlook and Entourage on Mac OS X, and also supports webmail through Internet browsers on Mac and Windows platforms.
Kerio MailServer 6’s improvements include an enhanced webmail client that allows calendar and task management in addition to just e-mail. It works with Safari on Mac OS X as well. Kerio MailServer 6 supports Entourage v.x and the more recently released component of Office 2004, Entourage 2004. A MAPI-based plug-in provides support for corporate users who depend on Windows e-mail and contact management clients like Outlook 2000, XP and 2003, which eliminates the need for Microsoft Exchange, according to Kerio. A migration utility has also been developed to help move data from Exchange 5.5, 2000 and 2003.
Kerio anticipates that MailServer 6 will be released in July 2004; licenses start at US$449 for 20 mailboxes. Kerio MailServer 6 requires Mac OS X v10.3, SUSE Linux, Red Hat Linux or Windows 2000, XP or 2003.
