Parliant Corp. on Wedneday released the US$199.95 PhoneValet Message Center, a combination of hardware and software that turns a Mac running Mac OS X into a telecom center, complete with voice-mail support for up to 11 mailboxes; the ability to record conversations, integrate them into a searchable call history, and download them to your iPod; caller ID screening; a fax controller and voice-activated dialing.
PhoneValet Message Center also supports AppleScript actions, so users can extend the system’s capabilities with other AppleScript-compatible applications on their Mac. Users can use this AppleScript support to dial in to their computers from a telephone elsewhere and issue commands, play audio files, or have text spoken to them. This technology enables PhoneValet Message Center users to remote control home lighting and appliances using X-10 home controllers, as well.
System requirements call for Mac OS X v10.1.5 or higher, an available USB port and a standard analog phone line with touch-tone service. The PhoneValet Message Center kit includes the USB telephone adapter, USB and telephone cables, software, user guide and dual telephone jack.
