Boston-based Mac consultancy Tech Superpowers, Inc. had one of the more unusual exhibits at this week’s Macworld Conference & Expo — a Lexus IS300 sedan billed as “the world’s fastest HD Final Cut Pro Production Studio.” The car came equipped with an Xserve Dual G5, Xserve RAID, AJA IO, Gigabit Ethernet hub and 42-inch plasma display running Final Cut Pro 4.5 HD. The Lexus — dubbed “Geek My Ride” — is likely to beat any other comparable video editing suite off the line in a quarter-mile race.
Tech SuperPowers held an “Edit On the Fly” competition during the show in which contestants signed up for 90-minute slots, then had to shoot and edit a movie of their own creation. Five contestants were up to the challenge, with prize packages up for grabs including a LaCie 250GB hard drive, Brenthaven gear bag, and Tech SuperPowers gear. This year’s winner was Arnon Shorr of OxRock Productions, who created what’s described as “a love story between a rat and a mouse (Contour mouse, that is) that fall in love on the show floor. With action, drama, romance, and a soundtrack, it was really the most entertaining of the entries.”
Honorable mention went to 12-year old Max Lewington, who shot footage of the convention center. You can view the winning movies and other entries online.
