Red Giant Software announced on Monday that its Knoll Light Factory 2 and Primatte Keyer applications are now supported for use with Discreet’s combustion 3 compositing software. Previously, both products were only available as Adobe After Effects plug-ins, although Knoll Light Factory is also compatible with other digital video software.
Knoll Light Factory, a creation of Adobe Photoshop co-author and Industrial Light + Magic visual effects supervisor John Knoll, is a solution for designing lens flares and other lighting effects. It also works with Photoshop, Final Cut Pro and Electric Image Universe 5, and it sells for US$395 in a full version or $99 as an upgrade, with a five-pack available for the price of four licenses. Mac OS X v10.1 or higher is required.
Primatte Keyer uses a patented algorithm to extract keys from any color background. It suppresses color spills, allows you to key transparent objects and removes grain in the alpha channel. It’s a $445 application, with upgrades to version 1.5 available for $99, and system requirements call for Mac OS X v10.2 or higher, a G4 processor and 256MB RAM.
