Symbiot Inc. announced on Tuesday the immediate availability of OpenSIMS, an open source solution that ties together the security tools and collaborative risk metrics currently in use on a network. OpenSIMS uses Java and XML as its foundation and employs an in-browser console created with Macromedia Flash. Symbiot has made the software available under the Apache Software Foundation’s 2.0 license agreement; long-term plans include migrating it into the foundation’s incubator. OpenSIMS requires Mac OS X Server v10.3.
