Apple on Wednesday released iTunes 4.6, the latest version of its popular music software. The new version was first mentioned earlier this week with the introduction of AirPort Express, and adds the ability to play music wirelessly over AirPort Express using a new technology called AirTunes. iTunes 4.6 also includes a number of other minor enhancements, according to Apple. iTunes 4.6 is a free update, and is available for download through the Software Update System Preference pane.
AirPort Express is a new US$129 wireless networking base station that supports the 802.11g wireless networking standard, also found in AirPort Extreme base stations and cards. It’s compatible with Macs and Windows PCs and can expand an existing AirPort Extreme or AirPort Express-based network, works as an easily portable wireless access point when you’re on the road, and using AirTunes, can also stream music from iTunes to a home stereo using an integrated analog/digital audio connector. AirPort Express also features a 10/100base-T Ethernet port to connect to a DSL or cable modem or a local area network, as well as a USB hub suitable for printer sharing.
