Open Text Corp. has announced the release of FirstClass 8.0, the company’s cross-platform integrated communications platform. The release sports a new instant messaging framework that supports text, images, voice and file attachments, transcript saving and forwarding. The new FirstClass Directory Services (FCDS) module is a bi-directional system for enabling FirstClass users to interact with LDAP and Microsoft Active Directory listings.
Also new is CAST-128 encryption between the FirstClass client and server, additional support for user authentication and automated detection and prevention of denial-of-service (DoS) attacks. E-mail services add S/MIME support and integration of a virus scanning engine, as well as expanded spam management. The server software includes performance optimizations.
