Ordinarily Massachusetts charges a 5 percent sales tax, but the Commonwealth has dubbed Saturday, August 14, 2004 a sales tax holiday. On that day, purchases of “tangible personal property costing $2,500 or less” are exempt from state sales tax. Apple has three retail stores in the state, and they’re celebrating the sales tax holiday by remaining open for 24 hours on Saturday — opening at 12:01 AM and closing at 11:59 PM in all three stores. Apple’s retail stores are located at the CambridgeSide Galleria in Cambridge, the Chestnut Hill Mall in Chestnut Hill and the Northshore Mall in Peabody. You can find more information and directions to the stores from Apple’s retail store Web page.
