Seapine Software Inc. announced on Wednesday the release of Surround SCM 3.0. The new version of the company’s version manager application features integration with Metrowerk’s CodeWarrior, support for Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) and Active Directory, integration with CruiseControl to automate the build process, faster file transfer speeds for remote users and more. In addition, Surround SCM now offers changelists, which allow you to group changes to multiple files for historical reporting, and atomic transactions, which preserves the source code’s integrity by dictating that changelist actions succeed or fail as a group.
This is a free upgrade for users whose licenses are less than a year old or who are currently paying for premium support, which costs 20 percent of the license price. Named licenses are US$595 each while floating licenses, which don’t specify users but limit the number of active users to the number of floating licenses, are $1,495 each. You can download an evaluation copy of the software from the Seapine Web site and take it for a 30-day test drive before deciding whether to license it. The company doesn’t list system requirements for Surround SCM.
