Skype Technologies S.A. has released a Beta of the Mac OS X version of its free software for making phone calls over the Internet. Skype features contact management functions, call and message tracking, file transfers up to 2GB, instant messaging, end-to-end encryption in all transmissions and more. It also includes the company’s SkypeOut service, which enables you to pre-pay for calls to landlines and cell phones anywhere in the world for as little as €0.017 (US$0.02) per minute; a rate sheet on the Skype Web site breaks down the prices. The software requires Mac OS X v10.3, a G3 running at 400MHz, 128MB RAM and 20MB free hard drive space.
