Microsoft Corp.’s Macintosh Business Unit (MacBU) has announced the release of Virtual PC for Mac Version 7 to manufacturing. As has been previously noted, the company plans for Virtual PC 7 to reach store shelves in October. Additionally, the company has released Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac Professional Edition to manufacturing — it bundles Virtual PC 7 as well.
New features in Virtual PC 7 include support for the processors used in Apple’s Power Mac G5 and iMac G5 systems; improved performance; faster screen redraws and more responsive graphics; “fast save”; easier printing; expanded preferences and settings and more.
Microsoft acquired Virtual PC from Connectix Corp. Microsoft first unveiled Virtual PC 7 earlier this year, and in May confirmed the software’s release would be delayed until after the release of Windows XP SP2, an update to the operating system that recently began widespread distribution.
Virtual PC 7 will first debut with Windows XP Professional — that version is what Office 2004 for Mac Professional Edition includes, as well. Microsoft also plans to make available Virtual PC 7 with Windows 2000, Home, and Standalone and Upgrade editions “a few months after this debut.”
