LaCie announced on Monday improvements to its line of mobile hard drives that include a new top-end storage capacity of 100GB, a speed increase to 7200rpm on the 60GB model and dual FireWire and USB 2.0 interfaces. The bus-powered drives are slightly larger than an iPod and ship with Silverlining and SilverKeeper software for drive management and data backup, respectively. You can expect to see them later this month in 40GB (US$159) and 100GB ($369) configurations, along with two versions of the 60GB and 80GB models, each with differing speeds — the 60GB offers 4200rpm ($199) or 7200rpm ($299) while the 80GB features 4200rpm ($259) or 5400rpm ($299). The 40GB drive has a 2MB buffer while the rest have 8MB.
