Small Tree Communications announced on Monday that it’s now shipping its proprietary Intel Pro/100 gigabit Ethernet PCI cards, which are copper-based and offer one, two or four ports. The card’s ports operate independently, enabling you to connect to different networks, or Small Tree’s 802.3ad Link Aggregation software can combine the ports to create one high-bandwidth virtual interface. The card also supports jumbo frames up to 16K, better CPU utilization and higher sustained data throughput.
The Intel Pro/100 is compatible with 133MHz 64-bit PCI-X slots–the single and dual port versions work with Power Mac G4 and G5 computers as well as Xserve while the quad port edition can only be installed in a G5 or an Xserve. Mac OS X v10.2.7 or higher is required. Prices and product pages were not available on the Small Tree Web site as MacCentral posted this article.
