Allume Systems Inc., formerly known as Aladdin Systems, announced on Monday the release of StuffIt Deluxe 9.0, the latest version of the company’s software for compressing and archiving files. This upgrade takes advantage of the new Power Mac G5’s dual-processor capabilities and integrates into Mac OS X’s Finder, enabling you to save archives directly to CDs or DVDs as well as to FTP servers, including the iDisk storage that comes with a .Mac account.
In addition, StuffIt Deluxe 9.0 features a redesigned user interface for DropStuff, faster compression and decompression of archives, the ability to archive files and folders simply by renaming them with the proper extension, better cross-platform compatibility with Windows and more. In addition, this release includes ArchiveAssistant, which adds more options to regular file backups and new merging technology for restoring files to their original locations when archives are opened.
Owners of previous versions of StuffIt Deluxe can upgrade for US$29.99, while new users will need to pay $79.99 for the full version. Anyone who purchased StuffIt Deluxe 8.0 after Aug. 20, 2004 can upgrade for free. System requirements call for Mac OS X v10.3.
