Freeverse Software announced on Monday that the turn-based strategy game Massive Assault is now shipping. Based on developer Wargaming.net’s 3D engine, Massive Assault pits the Free Nations Union against the Phantom League on one of six distant planets, with battles taking place on land, at sea and in the air. A “secret alliance” feature keeps each side’s allied countries a secret, disclosing them and providing additional troops and vehicles at any random moment, which can immediately shift the balance of power.
Players have access to 26 different types of units that each have advantages and disadvantages, with the ability to engage in such guerilla tactics as sabotage, stage large naval landings, provide artillery support for their troops and more. They can take on computer-controlled opponents or head online for a human challenge. Massive Assault costs US$39.95 and requires Mac OS X v10.2, a G3 running at 600MHz, 256MB RAM, 650MB hard drive space and a video card with 32MB VRAM.
