Max Gaming Technologies and GarageGames has announced plans to hold the ” MavLympics ” in October to help drum up interest in the companies’ new first-person shooter, Dark Horizons: Lore. The game puts players in the cockpits of giant Mechanized Assault Vehicles (MAVs) as they square off against each other in massively multiplayer online combat. Dark Horizons: Lore works on Mac OS X and Windows operating systems.
The MavLympics will have players competing in “various human-like sports” in their MAVs — activities like High Jump, Cross Country, Fencing, Long Jump, Artillery Accuracy Competition, Team Dueling and another team event, MavBall. The game’s back-end online system will monitor ranking and track player statistics. Prizes will include ATI All-in-Wonder 9800 graphics cards (sadly, compatible with PCs only) and Sennheiser USB PC headphones.
Regardless of the prize situation, it’s a prime opportunity for Mac game enthusiasts to school their PC counterparts, so make sure to sign up. The MavLympics take place from Oct. 1 – 3, 2004. More general information about Dark Horizons: Lore is available from the game’s official Web site.
