Servoy BV has released Servoy 2.1, an upgrade to the company’s database development and deployment environment that offers over 50 new or improved features. Important additions to the software include localization tools that enable deploying one solution in multiple languages from the same server without added coding; Style Sheets, which use a syntax similar to cascading Style Sheets for a consistent look and feel across multiple solutions and servers; Type Ahead, which creates an ever-narrowing dropdown list of words or phrases as you type in a field, allowing you to make a selection when it appears; and more.
You can use Servoy event-driven and JavaScript-based GUI designer to build and deploy SQL database front-end applications. It’s compatible with such SQL back-ends as Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, Sybase, MySQL, PostgreSQL and others. It runs on Mac OS X, although Servoy BV’s Web site doesn’t state the minimum version required.
This is a free upgrade for registered users of version 2.0. Client licenses, which are used to deploy your applications to end-users, are US$239 each, with one-year subscriptions to free upgrades and support available for $107. Servoy Developer Edition is $649, with one-year subscriptions available for $227. The $1,995 Servoy Runtime Builder plug-in enables the creation of stand-along Servoy applications with redistribution of up to 500 copies of the solution; one-year subscriptions are $700. Servoy BV also offers a 20 percent educational discount as well as a 10 to 45 percent volume purchase discount.
