Iomega Corp. on Thursday announced plans to introduce new, redesigned hard disk drives compatible with Macs and PCs. The new 7200RPM drives feature a stackable design, can be used vertically, and are equipped with a Kensington security slot. Expected to debut next week, Iomega’s new hard disk drives come with interfaces including USB 2.0, FireWire 400/USB 2.0, and FireWire 800/400/USB 2.0, and in capacities ranging from 120GB to 400GB depending on which interface is selected. The drives also come equipped with Iomega’s Automatic Backup software. Iomega expects the USB 2.0 units to be ready on October 5th, while the FireWire 400/USB 2.0 drives will ship on the 15th. The triple-interface drives equipped with FireWire 800 are expected to follow on November 5th. Prices range from US$159 to $429 depending on configuration.
