Font management has typically been handled on the user level in the past, but Extensis’ new Suitcase Server X1, which was announced on Tuesday, offers network administrators the ability to control font usage across a workgroup or organization. Suitcase Server X1 allows administrators to decide font access on a user-by-user basis and even remove non-approved fonts from local machines or grant users temporary permission to add specific fonts. In addition, the software can track font licenses, administer fonts on either Windows or Mac OS X and more.
Suitcase Server X1 is US$1,199.99 for the main application and $129.95 per client seat, with volume pricing available. Upgrades from previous versions of Suitcase Server are $499.95 for the server software and $35 per seat, with free upgrades for all client seats available to Suitcase Server 10 customers through March 31, 2005. System requirements call for Mac OS X or Mac OS X Server v10.2.8, a G4 processor, 128MB RAM and 30MB of hard drive space.
