Mendocino, Calif.-based SoftRAID LLC has released SoftRAID 3.1, a new version of their software used for turning two or more hard drives into Redundant Arrays of Inexpensive Disks (RAIDs). This new release is the first bootable version of SoftRAID. SoftRAID enables users to create RAID Level 0 (striped) or RAID Level 1 (mirrored) systems. Apple includes with Mac OS X a disk utility that lets users create basic RAID volumes, but SoftRAID says its software is more flexible, reliable, and sports an array of features Apple’s does not. SoftRAID costs US$129; v3.1 is a free upgrade for 3.0.x users, who will receive the upgrade by e-mail.
