Aspyr Media Inc. on Thursday released Battlefield 1942 Dedicated Server v1.0. The software, available for download from Macgamefiles.com, allows Mac users to run a Battlefield 1942 server dedicated to multiplayer use. The advantage over using your gaming Mac for serving up a Battlefield 1942 game is that the dedicated server software can support more users. It also doesn’t have an impact on the performance of your gaming machine.
Battlefield 1942 is a first-person action game set in World War II with a heavy emphasis on multiplayer, arena-style combat where players not only attack on foot but also in three dozen different machines — vehicles ranging from tanks, half-tracks and jeeps to ships and aircraft. More than 16 famous battle sites from World War II have been re-created ranging from Omaha Beach to Stalingrad. Aspyr’s Mac “Deluxe Edition” combines the original game with its first official expansion pack, “The Road to Rome.”
