WoodWing Software said on Friday that an updated version of its Smart Layout workflow solution for Adobe InDesign and InCopy users is now available. Smart Layout CS 3.1 brings compatibility with the CS versions of InDesign and InCopy and offers several new features, including one-click conversion of a group of page items into Smart Layout articles; automatic XML mapping that doesn’t require users to understand the mark-up language; one-click implementation of CopyFit, which reformats content to fit the elements on a page, and Square Off, which resizes an article and levels its columns; and more.
This is a free upgrade for registered owners of version 3.0. Smart Layout is available separately for InDesign or InCopy — users of the former are charged US$199 for upgrades from version 2.x and $499 for a full copy while users of the latter can expect to spend $79 for an upgrade from 2.x or $199 for the full version. A 30-day trial copy of Smart Layout that works with either application is available for download from the WoodWing Web site. Mac OS X v10.2 is required.
