Aspyr Media Inc. on Tuesday released a playable demo version of its 3D strategy game set in outer space, Homeworld 2. The 161MB demo features three tutorial missions and the first full single player mission, to help give you a taste of what the full game has to offer. The full game adds an extensive single player campaign and multiplayer support also.
Homeworld 2, developed originally by Relic Entertainment and published for the PC by Sierra, puts player in charge of the Pride of Hiigara, a gigantic mothership in space. You mine resources from nearby asteroids and build fleets and defenses for your massive vessel as you protect yourself from the marauding Vaygr. You must think literally in three dimensions in order to defeat the enemy as you deploy your fleets and obtain the resources necessary to replenish your supplies and building materials.
System requirements for Homeworld 2 call for Mac OS X v10.2.8 or later, G4/800MHz or faster, 256MB RAM and ATI Radeon 7500 or Nvidia GeForce2 MX or better 3D graphics acceleration with at least 32MB VRAM.
