With hurricanes and tropical storms prominent in the news recently, Lunar Software Inc. has released an update to its EarthBrowser weather application that features the ability to track the deadly storms as they move across the planet. EarthBrowser 2.1 also offers the locations of more than 1,500 active and dormant volcanoes, with the ability to access in-depth information about each one, as well as performance improvements.
EarthBrowser presents a 3D model of the Earth that updates hourly with the latest information about storms, earthquakes, volcanoes and other natural activity. You can use it to access the seven-day forecasts, as well as the current time, for over 17,000 cities as well as take in the view from hundreds of customizable Web cams from around the world. It also comes with a screensaver module that you can add to Mac OS X.
This is a free update for registered owners. Those who own version 1.x should contact Lunar Software through its Web site to get an upgrade discount. Pricing is US$19.95 and Mac OS X v10.1 is required, along with a 400MHz processor, 128MB RAM and 64MB hard drive space.
