Aspyr Media announced on Wednesday that Secret Weapons of World War II, the newest expansion pack for the multi-player first-person shooter Battlefield 1942, has reached Gold status, which means it’s ready for shipping. The company expects the game to report for duty on Oct. 18 and hit store shelves nationwide by Oct. 23. Secret Weapons is based on the actual vehicles and weapons that were on the drawing board during World War II but were never used in combat. New weapons include one-shot-kill throwing knives, the Bren light machine gun, the Auto 5 shotgun, the Mauser K98 grenade rifle and the Wasserfall guided anti-air missile.
New vehicles include the German prototype rocket pack, the Horton HO 229 Flying Wing, a Sherman tank with a T-34 Calliope rocket launcher, the T95/T28 Super Heavy Tank, the Natter rocket plane, a Sturmtiger with a naval gun and the American AW-52 advanced fighter. In addition, Secret Weapons offers eight new campaigns, new locations, British commando and German elite troops and a new objective-based mode.
Secret Weapons of World War II requires Battlefield 1942 to play. In addition, you’ll need Mac OS X v10.2.8, a G4 running at 867MHz, 256MB RAM, 1.6GB free hard drive space, 32MB of Video RAM (ATI Radeon 7500 or nVidia GeForce 2) and a DVD drive. Online play requires a 56Kbps or faster connection. Pricing is US$29.99.
