Addonics Technologies on Wednesday introduced the Drive Cartridge removable storage product family, designed to use standard 3.5-inch IDE, 2.5-inch IDE and 3.5 SATA hard disk drive mechanisms. It works with Mac OS X, Windows and Linux operating systems. The drive mechanism is installed inside a drive cartridge and the cartridge is placed inside a cradle tray; that tray can work either internally in a desktop computer that can accommodate it (like an older Power Mac G4) or externally, connected through external Serial ATA (SATA), USB 2.0 or FireWire interfaces. Prices start at US$23 for the internal SATA 3.5-inch version or US$59 for the internal USB 3.5-inch version; drives are sold separately.
