PhotoVu LLC on Thursday announced its PV1940 wireless digital picture frame, a 19-inch LCD panel that can be hung on a wall and displayed like conventional artwork or photography, while displaying digital photos and illustrations. Like its cousin the PV1910, the PV1940 displays images at up to 1280 x 960 pixels, and supports Wi-Fi wireless networking or wired networking with host Macs, PCs, Linux and Unix systems. What’s more, it can support an optional 40GB removable hard disk drive. Other changes in the PV1940 include Wi-Fi PDA support, display of EXIF metadata, and the ability to mount and be used in Portrait mode. It supports iPhoto on the Macintosh, and Adobe Photoshop Album on Windows. The basic PV1940 costs US$1,299. With a 12v DC power source it costs $1,399, and with 40GB of removable storage it costs $1,549.
