Although it’s been undergoing testing by the user community for months, MySQL AB on Wednesday announced that MySQL 4.1 is now “production-ready.” The open source database software gains speed and reliability improvements with this general release, along with more secure client-server communication, new installation and configuration tools, support for international character sets and geographic data. MySQL 4.1 is available for Mac OS X, Linux, Windows, Solaris and other operating systems. Developers and organizations can choose between an open source GPL license or a commercial license depending on their needs.
