Propel Software Corp. on Wednesday announced the development of Propel Accelerator for Macintosh. Propel’s software is licensed by Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to increase the speed at which Web pages are displayed over dial-up connections by compressing data, caching Web page elements and using other techniques. Propel said that its Mac software isn’t just a port of its Windows application — it’s designed the Mac product as a system-level utility, with user controls to adjust speed and image quality accessible using a System Preferences pane. Propel Accelerator for Macintosh will require Mac OS X v10.2 or higher, and works with all Mac browsers. Propel said that the new software will be distributed by ISPs and other service providers in December 2004.
