On Thursday, technical book publisher O’Reilly announced the publication of “Modding Mac OS X: Extreme Makeovers for Your Mac,” a 276-page, US$24.95 tome that author Erica Sadun says will “let your inner geek express itself and simply have fun.” She uses the book to show readers how to tweak Mac OS X, from such basics as changing Finder views and using screensavers to customizing application icons, discovering secret resources hidden in application bundles and more. All of her step-by-step modification projects are rated according to time, difficulty, “Geekitude” and what Sadun calls “Chinese Take-Out Equivalent.” You can find a sample chapter, “Application Dumpster Diving,” on the O’Reilly Web site.
